Procrastination they say its a thief of time, procrastination has become a trap in this age that many of us fall into. In fact according to Research 95percent of us procrastinate to some degree .While it may be comforting to know that you're not alone in that,it can be sobering to realize just how much it can hold you back.
Procrastination According to Wikipedia "is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished by a certain deadline .It could be further stated as a habitual or intentional delay of starting or finishing a task despite knowing it might have negative consequences ". When you procrastinate ,instead of working on important ,meaningful tasks ,you find yourself performing trivial activities i.e There is Trouble persuading yourself to do the things you should do or would like to do .Procrastination is one of the main barriers blocking you from getting up ,making the right decisions and living the dream life you've thought of . Recent studies have shown that people regret more of the things they haven't done than the things they have done .In addition,feelings of regret and guilt resulting from missed opportunities tend to stay with people much longer .Sometimes all our opportunities seem to be on our fingertips ,but we can't seem to reach them .When you procrastinate,you waste time that you could be investing in something Meaningful. If you can overcome this fierce enemy ,you will be able to accomplish more and in doing so better to utilize the potential that life has to offer .We now know that the world today is conducive to procrastinating and learning how to overcome it is therefore,one of the most important skills you can learn.
What Procrastination is not
Procrastination is not Laziness we often confuse Procrastination with laziness although they seem closely related but they are different. Lazy people ,simply don’t do anything and are just fine with it. Procrastinators,on the other hand ,have the desire to actually do something but can’t force themselves to start ...Procrastination is an active process –you choose to do something else instead of the task that you know you should be doing .In contrast,laziness suggests apathy,inactivity and unwillingness to act .Procrastination usually involves ignoring a unpleasant,but likely more important task ,in favor of one that is more enjoyable or easier .But giving into this impulse can have serious consequences .For example ,even minor episodes of Procrastination can make us feel guilty or ashamed .It can lead to reduced productivity and cause us to miss out on achieving our goals. If we procrastinate over a long period of time,we can become demotivated and disillusioned with our work ,which can lead to depression and even job loss ,in extreme cases.
Relaxation is not procrastination Don’t confuse procrastination with relaxation either .Relaxing recharges you with energy while procrastination Drains it from you .While dissecting procrastination its only key to get to the root of it and that takes us to. WHY DO PEOPLE PROCRASTINATE??
**DECISION PARALYSIS
This is saying with more freedom to make our own decisions and to perform our actions,we have become easily confused about what is a priority ,what is essential and what is not ,and with what is right and wrong,and therefore we have become demotivated to do anything at all **ignoring the value of time
One of the major reason for Procrastination is we tend to ignore the Value of time forgetting that the time we spend on earth is limited and every seconds wasted is gone forever .
**lack of Self-Discipline To be disciplined means you need to have the correct type of motivation and learn to maintain and work on positive habits. Now taking a pause from the causes of Procrastination even if there is more,it will be unbalanced not to provide recommendations or solution to the fast rising menace of Procrastination .Which leads us to HOW TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION
*Recognize that you're procrastinating :
Its only expedient for you to know and then admit you are procrastinating before going to the next phase of action.
**Work Out WHY You're Procrastinating
You need to understand the reasons why you are procrastinating before you can begin to tackle it .For instance ,are you avoiding a particular task because you find it boring or unpleasant ? If so ,take steps to get it out of the way quickly ,so that you can focus on the aspects of your job that you find more enjoyable .Poor organization can lead to procrastination .Organized people successfully overcome it because they use prioritized To-Do Lists and create effective schedules .These tools help you to organize your tasks by priority and deadline .
Adopt Anti-Procrastination Strategies
These are tips that can help which include
- :Forgive yourself for procrastinating in the past
- Keep a to-do list and prioritizing it
- Having a personal vision
- Set yourself time-bound goals
- Become a master of scheduling and Project planning
- Commit to the task
- Promise yourself a reward

Procrastination has proven to be a bad Omen for good success thereby becoming an enemy for all because it can restrict your potential and undermine your career .It can also disrupt teamwork ,reduce morale,and even lead to depression and job loss .its a impediment that needs cure and all hands must be on deck to take Proactive steps to prevent or stop it .Will be putting an end to this piece by giving different quotes on Procrastination.
